Things To Do
While in Grates Cove, take time to hike the boardwalk to the top of The Big Hill; don't forget to take your camera. From there enjoy the scenic panoramic view of the area. On your left across Trinity Bay is the Bonavista Peninsula, and on your right is Baccalieu Island Bird Sanctuary. With the aid of Spy Glasses (Binoculars) and a little imagination, you can almost see Ireland, only 1600 miles away.
Enjoy the colourful boats bobbing in the cove, and watch the local fishermen land their catch at the wharf.
Take a short side trip, past Dancing Place Pond, to the Heart Cove, and if you're lucky you will see Bald Eagles nesting. From Land's End take a short hike to Flat Rocks and then onto to Mooring Point, later visit areas of Shipwrecks, like the Mollie.
In season, pick some of the sweetest berries anywhere, Blueberry, Partridgeberries and Bakeapples (you may know them as Cloud Berries, Sir). A little time on your hands? Sit on the back deck and enjoy the clean clear North Atlantic air, or have a BBQ, while enjoying the whales frolicking out by the Grates Rock.
Historic Rock Walls, Big Hill Board Walk, Cabot Rock Memorial, Trout fishing in local ponds, walking trails, berry picking, whale watching, Ice Bergs and Sea Birds.
